Mohan was born to Mr. P.A. Mathew & Mary Mathew, Poothicote, Mepral, Tiruvalla on the 16th of August 1945. He did his education till the 4th Grade in Andhra Pradesh in St. Aloysius, situated at Vizagapatam. From then on he moved from one place to another during the course of his school life. He did his schooling from the 4th to 7th Grade in St. Columbus, Delhi; then the 7th to 10th Grade at Madras Christian College High School, Madras.
During these years, Mohan developed a keen interest for athletics, participating in almost all notable events. Cricket occupied the menu of sporting events that inspired him the most. The art & techinique of hitting a ball to the different corners and the criticality of the element called timing that drives the game had made great impressions on him about the game. He participated in various tournaments during his days as a student that got him many awards & accolades for his excellent performance.
Science and Biology occupied a distinct place in his mind… always researching the reason or cause for the happening. On completing Pre-Degree at Madras Christian College, Tambaram & CMS College Kottayam, he looked to exploit his talents in the field of “medicine” that inspired him of all. A Degree from Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada & Kottayam Medical College saw him through to the next level of study.
The Post Graduate Study was at CMC Vellore, Madras. His commitment towards a cause and undeterred enthusiasm made him popular among his teachers and friends. It also gave him the opportunity to showcase his skills when he was given an added responsibility as the editor of the “Medical Student magazine - Pulse”. He was also selected, the National Medical Student for Sandoz 1969 during his tenure in college.
